Happy Birthday, America!
What a
wonderful holiday July 4th is! Not just because of the hotdogs and
hamburgers on the barbecue or because of the pretty fireworks after
the sun goes down. It's great because it's a time for all of us to
reflect on what a truly blessed country we live in and to pay tribute
to those that have sacrificed their lives for us to remain the free and
wonderful country we are! I hope you enjoy the following links as they
are the best at reminding us how great our country is and they also
have some terrific things for you and your family to do! Happy 4th
everyone!
At Independance Day on the Net, you'll pretty much find everything to
do with the 4th of July. From the history of the day, to the
Decleration of Independance, to a complete listing of all the
Presidents, in order of their term of office, you can pretty much count
on learning something you didn't know! There's also some great craft
ideas and recipes for that bbq you'll probably have!

The best website I found on the Decleration of Independance is at
The National Archives. Not only can you see a great copy of the
original, but you can also read about its history, the artistry of it,
and why the Virginia Decleration of Rights influenced Thomas Jefferson
so greatly! And if you are inclined to visit The National Archives
in person, there's a page with their operating hours and
you can click to get a map too!

If you'd like to know more about the author of the Decleration of
Independance, Thomas Jefferson, you're in luck! I found a great website
that has the complete archives of his papers! It's an eye opening read!

No celebration of our country would be complete without supporting our
troops! Just imagine how greatful our troops would be if every one of
us sent them a little note or a care package! What a great way to show
them we care! There are so many wonderful websites out there that give
us many ways to support them. Here are a couple that might interest you:
There's Operation Dear Abby:
http://anyservicemember.navy.mil/ that gives us all a way to send
an electronic message and has some great tips with what we can
do listed under the Additional Outlets of Support link, in the menu on
the left side of the page.
There's Adopt a Platoon:
http://www.adoptaplatoon.org/ which gives us ways to support our
deployed platoons. This organization was founded and is run by moms
of soldiers deployed, so that NO soldier will be forgotten! What a
wonderful way for moms, and all of us, to show our love and support!
For those of you with loved ones in the military and away from home,
there is Yellow Ribbon America which gives away free bumperstickers and
encourages us all to support our fighting forces.

And of course, no Surf's Up article would be the same without Kids
Domain! They always have wonderful crafts for families to do together.
Along with fun coloring pages and graphics, there are e-cards that we
can send,
online games, and the history of July 4th and why we celebrate
it!

I wish all of you a safe and happy 4th of July! Have a hotdog for me! :)
